There is a huge retail economy in the Virtual Scottish Highlands.
This is a list of current retailers and vacant shops.
Retailing in Second Life is usually the provision of
in-world products to avatars, but there are two ways of extending this
to promote a Real Life business.
It is possible to sell real life products for delivery
worldwide to real locations. This can be done using the Linden currency
which can be freely converted back to US$ which can be collected using
PayPal. You can see an example of this at The Real Nessie Shop in the
virtual Fort Augustus below.
A second method is to promote a website, displaying products
in-world, but selling them from your website. Look at the Macbeth Shop at 3
Bank Street in the virtual Inverness below.
A third method, particularly useful for artists, is to sell
miniature versions of your artwork and paintings from an in-world shop.
There are several examples of this in the virtual Inverness below.
Rents are amazingly low. A small shop in the Virtual
Drumnadrochit can be just L$30 per week which equates to 10 cents or
6p. A large shop in a prime position in the Virtual Inverness would be
around L$250 which is less than US$1 or about 65p per week. So promotion of
your website or real life business is very inexpensive.
